The Goldfish Club

How It Started

Two of my biggest (also most expensive) hobbies are fishkeeping and aquascaping. My partner described this intense and passionate love of the hobby in the best words possible, one afternoon during a supply run:

“The fishtank is your art canvas.”

Then, everything from that point just clicked together after that revelation, all while awkwardly holding a bag of Fluval substrate and fish food. I love fish. I love keeping them, learning about them, and raising and taking care of them. 

I had the idea of creating a snail mail club in the early fall of 2025, and I was stumped on what theme and aesthetic I wanted it to be. I tried one idea, then the next, and a few more, but I eventually shelved the project idea for a while due to my insecurities about it not being unique enough to capture people’s attention and win their affection. I spent the next few months watching the creators of other snailmail brands showcase theirs, and I thought to myself that I could never create one of my own. 

However, the new year rolled around, and I was sitting at work when the idea popped into my head: The Goldfish Club. I’m going to be honest with you, I truly don’t know how and where my brain decided to create the name. I wasn’t even thinking of fish at the time. From there, I obsessed with the idea of a cute comet goldfish carrying mail with a slingbag around its body and wearing a cute hat. The name I chose for this project rolled off the tongue smoothly. It was … PERFECT! 

Seriously, why didn’t I think of this before! Combining my love of writing letters, creating art pieces, and aquatic life together, I couldn’t believe it took me this long to figure out. 

And that is how The Goldfish Club came to be.
